Meta has unveiled Muse Image, its first AI‑driven image generation model developed by its advanced research unit, Superintelligence Labs. The rollout marks a significant step in Meta’s strategy to move beyond its Llama series and introduce a new family of Muse models designed to power the next generation of artificial intelligence technologies.
Muse Image will be integrated into Meta’s ecosystem of apps, including Meta AI, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with future expansion planned for Facebook and Messenger. The company confirmed that the model is engineered to enhance creative tools across its platforms, offering users new ways to generate, edit, and share visuals.
Alexandr Wang, Head of Meta Superintelligence Labs, explained that Muse Image possesses agentic capabilities, working in tandem with the Muse Spark large language model. This pairing allows the system to interpret user prompts, conduct online research, and plan before generating images, resulting in higher accuracy and improved quality. Wang also revealed that Meta is preparing to launch Muse Video, a companion model focused on video generation, praised for its ability to follow text commands, maintain frame consistency, and deliver high‑quality visuals.
One of Muse Image’s standout features is its ability to tag Instagram accounts using the “@” symbol within image creation commands. This enables the model to incorporate public images from tagged accounts into generated visuals, creating representations of those users. Meta emphasized that privacy controls remain in place, allowing individuals to manage how their public images are used by AI tools.
The model also supports direct editing, enabling users to draw on images to add or remove elements before sharing results via posts, stories, or chats. At launch, Muse Image will introduce 30 new AI‑powered effects in Instagram Stories for U.S. users, with plans to expand globally and across other Meta platforms.
Meta’s announcement underscores its ambition to redefine digital creativity, positioning Muse Image as a cornerstone of its broader AI strategy.
